This page is a forum for the elders of SFC to communicate regularly with our participants about important developments in the life of our church and about the progress of our mission “…to reach the Stapleton Community and the surrounding communities and to provide an atmosphere in which they can become fully devoted followers of Christ.”  We will update this information monthly to give you an ongoing picture of our development as a church family and of fulfilling our vision of becoming an authentic community of followers of Christ that has maximum impact on the surrounding community for Christ.

ARCHIVED - Headlines from the July 14th, 2009, Elders' Meeting:

THE REALITIES OF REAL ESTATE

The primary pursuit of the Elder Board in recent months has been the search for a permanent home for SFC in Stapleton. The Pastors have kept the congregation well informed of developments through the Building Buzz newsletter, announcements during our worship gatherings, and information on our website. To summarize the current status as of mid-July, SFC is now under contract to purchase the former Linens ‘N Things building in Quebec Square. We entered into a 45-day inspection period in mid-June, and have since experienced some of the ups and downs expected in any major real estate deal: We did cross a major hurdle with the City and County of Denver's zoning department by securing a use permit for the facility, but soon after were alerted to a serious legal challenge to church use in Quebec Square due to the Encumbrances, Covenants, and Restrictions (ECR's) governing the retail center. We are working with our attorney and with our project manager, Scott McLean, to resolve this issue as soon as possible.  We believe strongly that if God wants us at this location, He has the ability to make it so.  Please continue to pray with us that we will find grace and favor with those in authority over these decisions.

Please also consider joining us in a period of fasting to draw closer to God and seek His wisdom and will in this. Your choice of fast can be any personal “dependency” including food, TV, Internet, coffee, etc. Click here for a good guide to the spiritual discipline of fasting that is focused on safely fasting from food.

EYES ON THE TRUE PRIZE

While securing a permanent home for SFC is important, a building is only a tool to help us expand and deepen our impact for good in the community. As Pastor Dean has reminded us all, the church is still a “who”, not a what, when, or where. No matter where we end up meeting, our mission and our focus as a body of believers is always the same: to advance the Kingdom of God by building REAL relationships and serving people in RELEVANT ways.  The Elders would like to share some recent, positive items of note:

  • Our crowd has been growing week by week.
  • Our new Worship Leader, Ross Turner, and those serving with him on his team have “clicked” with our faith family. They are inspiring a fresh intimacy and depth in our times of worship.
  •  We have experienced a smooth transition in our Children’s Ministry, thanks to the direction of Dana Logue and her many hardworking volunteers.
  • The Stapleton Pancake Breakfast on July 4th was a huge success, with over 1000 pancakes served. Thanks to Jim Logue and his team of faithful fryers and flippers.
  • Most importantly, several people have indicated new decisions to follow Christ in the last few weeks. This is what it’s all about, folks!
We praise God for His continued blessing of SFC’s ministry, and humbly thank Him for the opportunity our church has to touch lives for His glory.

Thanks for reading, and check in again next month.
