This page is a forum for the elders of SFC to communicate regularly with our participants about important developments in the life of our church and about the progress of our mission “…to reach the Stapleton Community and the surrounding communities and to provide an atmosphere in which they can become fully devoted followers of Christ.”  We will update this information monthly to give you an ongoing picture of our development as a church family and of fulfilling our vision of becoming an authentic community of followers of Christ that has maximum impact on the surrounding community for Christ.

ARCHIVE - Headlines from the December 17th, 2009, Elders' Meeting:

STEPPING DOWN (AFTER STEPPING UP)

After 4+ years of faithful service on the SFC Board of Elders, Shannon Cupp's “tour of duty” has drawn to a close. Shannon is looking forward to spending more time with her kids and will continue to contribute to SFC in many ways. The Elders thank Shannon for her wisdom, her dedication, and her example of a servant's heart.

BUILDING UPDATE

It has been said that whenever God closes a door, He opens a window...or in this case, a huge cement structure covered in windows. As announced on Sunday, December 6th, trying to secure the former Linens 'N Things has been a difficult process that has resulted in a dead-end. It has also been an educational process, however, and one that stalled our hand long enough for another exciting property to come onto the market: the aforementioned cement structure known as Hangar 61. It is a spacious and beautifully renovated building located just east of our current meeting place at DSST. As of December 4th, SFC is under contract for this new facility. We are presently performing a 60-day “due diligence” exploration to ensure that Hangar 61 is a viable home and a good investment. If we are able to move forward, we will schedule “town hall” meetings to offer a forum for discussion before SFC members convene to vote on final approval. We are very excited about the prospects of this facility as a tool to impact Stapleton and NE Denver with the message of Jesus. Please continue to join us in prayer!

EYES STILL ON THE TRUE PRIZE

Once again, while securing a permanent home for SFC is important, a building is only a tool to help us expand and deepen our impact for good in the community.  As Pastor Dean has reminded us all, the church is still a “who,” not a what, when, or where.  No matter where we end up meeting, our mission and our focus as a body of believers is always the same:  to advance the Kingdom of God by building REAL relationships and serving people in RELEVANT ways.   The Elders would like to share some recent, positive items of note:

  • The SFC family has really come together to support families in need and to bless our missionaries during this holiday season.
  • Many new volunteers have joined the Children's Ministry! Also, thanks to Dana Logue, Sarah Schachterle, and Brieanna Daddio-Mercer for their creative force in the upcoming Jr. Dance Workshop 2010.
  • The women of SFC enjoyed a delicious Christmas Tea and tour of the Botanic Gardens on December 13. Special thanks to Sheri Williams and guest speaker Liz Hill.
  • SFC has been presented with three challenges to give sacrificially in support of Kingdom work this Christmas: The Utah Church-planting Initiative (Goal: $20,000), the Jump-Start our Building Fund (Goal: $10,000), and the Bump Up the Budget Fund (Goal $10,000).
  • Over 200 people attended our Community Christmas Celebration on December 20th. The event featured performances by the children of SFC and a candle lighting ceremony that symbolized the light of Jesus spreading to fill the world.
  • Jim Logue has been organizing several opportunities for our church to serve at the Denver Rescue Mission.
  • Pastor Dean will be starting a new message series entitled “Maximus” in the New Year. It will be a fresh look at the vision and signature themes of SFC. Don't miss it!
We praise God for His continued blessing of SFC’s ministry, and humbly thank Him for the opportunity our church has to touch lives for His glory.

Thanks for reading, and check in again next month.
